MELANOCYTE EPIDERMAL CWLL SUSPENSION TRANSPLANTATION FOR VITILIGO

Melanocyte Treatment is a Swedish treatment which refers to the grafting of actually grown pigmentation cells (Melanocytes) to the affected area. In this treatment a superficial skin sample of 10sq cm is removed from the unaffected area to treat 100 sq cm of Leucoderma (Vitiligo) patches. From this sample pigment cells are extracted and kept in a special medium. The affected area is derma-abraded (scrapped superficially) to cause bleeding and then the melanocyte cells mixed with the cultured paste is applied over the bleeding area. The treated area is covered with a special Collagen dressing.

Punch Grafting

Multiple thin grafts of 2 - 2.5 mm diameter are taken from the donor site by special punches and grafted on to the diseased area. Once the grafts are 'taken up' the patient is advised to take PUVA or PUVA SOL. Re-pigmentation occurs in 3 - 6 months and good cosmetic result is obtained.

Split Grafting

In this proceedure a surgeon removes the outer layer of skin from a part of the body and uses it to cover an open wound in another part of body. Through this procedure the wound heals sooner with less chance of infection. Also, there may be a more comfortable, less disfiguring scar. Large wounds are not healed without a skin graft.
